About the Event
Embark on an exciting field trip to the University of Miami’s Rescue a Reef Wet Lab at the Rosenstiel School, where science, innovation, and community action come together to save Florida’s precious coral reefs.
Our visit will take you behind the scenes of UM’s coral conservation program, where researchers, students, and community members unite to protect and restore threatened coral species. You’ll witness firsthand how strong, science-based techniques are used to grow coral in land and offshore nurseries, ensuring a sustainable source of healthy coral colonies for reef restoration. These gardened populations are also key to cutting-edge research in coastal protection, reef recovery, and climate resiliency.
You’ll also learn about the Community Coral Garden Project, a remarkable initiative that empowers local communities to take charge of their coastal resources. By actively participating in coral conservation, individuals not only help to restore the reefs but also become stewards of their own…
