About the Event
Join us for an exciting field trip with Ocean Rescue Alliance International (ORAI) in Hollywood, Florida! Bring your mask and snorkel as we dive into their first snorkeling reef, led by founder Shelby Thomas. ORAI is a nonprofit marine conservation organization that uses innovative technology and art to create artificial reefs designed to restore marine habitats, boost coastal resiliency, and provide unique diving experiences.
On this trip, you’ll discover how ORAI's artificial reefs help address pressing marine habitat challenges caused by climate change and local stressors. These reefs provide lasting homes for marine organisms while enhancing our coastal environments. You’ll also learn about ORAI’s groundbreaking Memorial Reefs and Artistic Sculptures, which offer a meaningful way to commemorate loved ones while restoring our oceans.
Through ORAI’s hands-on education program, students and families will learn about marine conservation, restoration, and citizen science initiatives like the Coral Rangers program. Don’t miss this opportunity to explore the future of coral reef restoration and be a part of the solution to protect our marine environments for generations to come!
Students and parents are welcome. You must bring your own snorkeling gear. (If you do not own your own gear but would like to join, please let us know as we will have a few loaner sets and PFDs).
This is one of multiple opportunities for our current Surf Science students choose your own adventure week. Students must be currently registered in Surf Science to participate as space is minited. Please register for students only. Parents do not need to register.
